August Issue 2008
Message from the Chair:
It is hard to believe that it is the end of July and school will be starting in another couple of weeks! The Southwest Forum Leadership Team has been busy throughout the summer months working on a number of issues. The 62nd Annual Southwest Supply Management Conference is right around the corner - see below for additional information. The Board of Directors met in San Antonio on July 12, 2008 and we are announcing two very new and very exciting developments:
64th Annual Southwest Supply Management Conference - 2010
San Antonio has been chosen as the site for the 64th Annual Southwest Purchasing Conference. We are currently negotiating with several hotels in the area to determine which will be the host for this conference. We are delighted to be returning to San Antonio for this event. Our appreciation goes out to Jim Rhodes and Beth Rairigh for their assistance during our site visit in early July.
Harold M. Cosgrove Outstanding Member Award
The Harold M. Cosgrove Outstanding Member Award was established in 1955 to honor each year an outstanding member of District II of the National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM.) District II is now gone and NAPM has become the Institute for Supply Management (ISM.) In keeping with these transitions, the Southwest Forum Leadership is excited to announce that we will be replacing the Cosgrove Award with the Volunteer of the Year Award (VOY) beginning in 2008. In accordance with the approved process, the Cosgrove Award nominees submitted for 2007 will carry over for the year 2008 and we will select the 2008 VOY winner from those nominees. We will be rolling out additional details for the 2009 nominations for the Volunteer of the Year Award. The previous Cosgrove winners will continue to be honored at and provided registration to the Southwest Supply Management Conference.
we are excited about the 2008 year and welcome your ideas and suggestions. Please forward these to me at connie.mullins@johnzink.com.
Southwest Supply management Conference
Kathy Bridwell, SWSMC Chair
The theme of the SWSMC this year is, "Blaze a Trail. . . to Supply
Management".
Our volunteers are working hard to make this a great
conference event, and we hope to see each of you there! This will be
our first year to include an additional track from the ISM Logistics and Transportation Group.
The educational value from this group will
include more subjects and opportunities to expand your knowledge base.
Make plans now to schedule time for a great educational opportunity.
The conference will be held at the Marriott Dallas/Plano at Legacy Town Center in Plano, Texas,
September 24-26, 2008.
This years' conference offers 2 full-day seminars, half-day seminars on C.P.M. and CPSM exams and a test taking review, as well as featured speakers at the luncheons and over 30 different sessions, with one full track dedicated to logistics & transportation topics.
An annual golf tournament and a pre-conference reception event will be held on September 24, 2008.
The exhibitor trade show will be held on September 25, 2008.
This conference is a value that is unmatched! Receive 13 or more CEH units, needed for certification or re-certification!

From the Desk of the ISM Southwest Education Chair:

Hello everyone….well, it's been one heck of a hot summer in Texas
And I am sure looking forward to some cooler weather! Hopefully, when we all get to Plano, it will be a cool fall atmosphere and we can enjoy all of those outside attractions that are in close proximity to the Conference site.
Our Education track of offerings is none less that excellent, super, great, fantastic, and a testament to the dedicated professionals that contribute back to their profession! I have surveyed the field and can assure you that the assembling of that much supply chain knowledge in one building could lead to many drastic reductions!J You will all leave with a wealth of information to take back and help transform your Companies to become savvier in the Supply Chain Process.
I am excited that we are only weeks away from this awesome event and am looking forward to meeting each of you that will be in attendance.
Best regards,
Elton D. Brock, MBA, CTPM, C.P.M.
